About this role
What you would do
Soup Kitchen: serve meals on Saturdays from 10:00am to 1:30pm, with a maximum of eight volunteers
Daily Bread Sandwich Program: make sandwiches for daily distribution
Food pantry restocking: keep shelves organized and stocked, lifting up to 50 lbs
Food distribution: hand out food Monday through Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons
Choice Food Pantry: help clients pick their own groceries, Monday to Friday
Donation sorting: sort food and clothing donations on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons
ESL tutoring at the Adult Learning Center: run conversation groups and one on one practice
Neighborhood clean up and special projects such as Easter baskets and school backpacks
St. Joseph Social Service Center in Elizabeth serves people who are poor or homeless. Meals, groceries, clothing and adult education all run out of the same building. Volunteers work in small teams beside staff, and they come from schools, churches, businesses and civic groups. Saturday soup kitchen shifts are capped at eight people.
