About this role
What you would do
Animal Care Assistant Caretaker: feed and water snakes, lizards, turtles, amphibians and chinchillas
Animal Care: clean and maintain terrarium and cage habitats, handling pellets, vegetables and mealworms
Assistant Land Steward: wood chip trails, remove invasive plants and help with seasonal trail clearance
Faerie Trail Caretaker: use craft and art skills to keep the faerie trail exhibit whimsical
Office and Administrative Support: scanning, data entry, filing, phones and mailings
Program Photographer: photograph programs, events, grounds, flora, fauna and animal ambassadors
Forest Defenders: remove invasive plants on 2nd and 4th Sundays and select Mondays
Nature Day in June: run interactive education stations across the preserve
Tenafly Nature Center keeps a wooded preserve with more than 7 miles of public trails. Volunteers care for the non releasable animals that live at the center and for the land itself. Most weekly roles ask for about two hours a week over a six month period. Training is provided for every position.
