About this role

What you would do

Provide exercise to well socialized dogs in the play yards
Socialize and give attention to social cats in need of interaction and stimulation
Write detailed feedback notes on animal interactions
Take photos of adoptable animals for social media
Fundraise for specific shelter needs or the needs of source shelters
Complete training in Safe Interactions with Dogs and Safe Interactions with Cats
Complete virtual training on social media, fundraising and feedback note writing

St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center cares for dogs and cats waiting for homes, including animals brought in from source shelters. Teens work in teams on a two hour weekly shift for about five months, either weekdays from 4:00 to 6:00pm or weekends from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Much of the work is outdoors in all seasons. Volunteers need a positive attitude, clear communication and a basic understanding of animal body language.
