About this role
What you would do
Complete a 200 plus hour state approved EMT course and pass the National Registry exam
Ride a weekly four hour shift, either 3pm to 7pm or 7pm to 11pm
Provide emergency medical care to the sick and injured
Work with an assigned crew and communicate with a wide range of patients
Take 12 hour weekend shifts four to six times a year
Compete in the annual Bayshore EMS Cadet/Youth Competition
The Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad answers emergency medical calls in Millburn and Short Hills. Cadets earn a state EMT license first, then ride with squad crews and care for real patients. The work asks for steady nerves and clear thinking in critical moments. The commitment runs two school years, junior and senior.
