About this role

What you would do

  • Summer Reading Volunteers: encourage children on their reading journey and hand out prizes
  • Book Buddies: pair up one on one to help a young emerging reader practice their reading skills
  • Youth Services Program Volunteers: assist librarians with programs and help with crafts
  • Clerical Volunteers: shelving and other clerical work around the library
  • Other roles come up through the year, posted to volunteers on signup.com
Livingston Public Library runs its teen volunteers through a Youth Services program that puts them alongside librarians and young readers. Once you are accepted for the volunteer year, you pick your own shifts from an on-demand board, so the schedule bends around school. The library also runs a Teen Advisory Board and a Teen Partnership Application for teens who want to lead a program of their own.
