About this role
What you would do
Remove invasive plants, including long term suppression of Japanese knotweed
Plant native species to restore the forest
Maintain and enhance the flora and infrastructure of the 14 acre Wildflower and Forest Preserve
Monitor the 41 smaller regeneration sites for invasive growth
Adopt-a-Regeneration-Site: groups maintain one site and file work reports every two months
Forest Regeneration Fencing Team: repair perimeter fences damaged by fallen trees and storms
Basic instruction, tools and plants are provided by the Conservancy
South Mountain Reservation is a large county park in Essex County. Invasive plants crowd out the native forest there, and this work gives young trees and wildflowers room to grow back. Workdays are outdoors and hands on, and they run on weekend mornings from April through November.
